Borderlands 60th Birthday Celebration

The eminent Fitzwilliam String Quartet and rising star singer Suzie Purkis are premiering three of Johnson’s new works in a special concert celebrating her 60th birthday (2024 – the Year of the Dragon).

Taking inspiration from the landscapes around her Liz has created Borderlands String Quartet No. 5 conjuring up the hills, sky and sea - with dragons - and I Should Have Been Sea - a beautiful song for voice and string quartet.

A new interactive work Anam Cara for performers and audience has been created by Liz specially for this event - a meditative, calm and soothing piece for our troubled times.

Suzie Purkis will perform Pig, Elephant Woman and Watching Medusa for solo voice with percussion from the song cycle Jo Shapcott Settings.

‘Heartily recommended’ (audience member)

Lucy Russell will perform Harebell for solo violin and Ursula Smith will play movements from Liz’s ‘stunning’ Cello Suite along with other chamber works including Tide Purl for string quartet, Liz’s evocation of light on water at dusk.
