Love and nature are in full bloom in this programme of evocative imagery and shimmering choral harmony directed by Jeffrey Skidmore
Selections from Claude Le Jeune’s innovative 16th-century Le printemps set spring as the season of love. Love is the timeless subject for Palestrina - a giant of the Italian Renaissance - and for Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur, who brings impressionistic colour and intimacy to his choral masterpiece.
You'll also hear music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Liz Dilnot Johnson, and a world premierefrom Bobbie-Jane Gardner, who takes inspiration from Daisaku Ikeda's concept of "human flowers".
Our 2025-26 cohort of talented Scholars will be joined by cornetts and sackbuts from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire to perform this wonderful repertoire as part of the new Live at the Centre series - don't miss it!
Programme includes:
Daniel-Lesur Le Cantique des cantiques
G Gabrieli Lieto Godea a8
Johnson Blake Reimagined with improvising cornetto
Gardner human flowers: of the earth (world premiere)
Le Jeune Revecy venir du Printans (from Le printemps)
Palestrina Surge, propera, amica mea
